Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary, spoke Wednesday about the prospects of a stand-alone bill for airline relief, as President Trump continued to walk back his own retreat from negotiations on a broader coronavirus relief package and to push for more narrow legislation.

During a conversation in the morning, Mr. Mnuchin asked about the possibility of a stand-alone bill, as a critical payroll program for airline workers lapsed last week and airlines have warned of tens of thousands of more furloughs and layoffs without federal intervention.

Ms. Pelosi noted that Democrats had already thrown their support behind such a measure and reminded Mr. Mnuchin that Republicans had objected to unanimous

Hear from The Byrd Theatre, The Ashland Theatre, and The Goochland Drive-In Theater.

Theatres in central Virginia, like in many other areas, are struggling to stay afloat amidst the health crisis. NBC 12 recently chatted with a few companies about their plans.

The Byrd Theatre closed in March, and has now reopened for donors only, bringing business down by 75%.

Stacy Shaw, the theatre’s Executive Director, says that a survey was sent to patrons.

“30 percent said we’re not really comfortable until there’s a vaccine, and then the other 70 percent said we really miss you guys but we’re okay right now,” said Shaw.

The Ashland Theatre is also allowing paid special screenings of films, as well as drive-in options, which are ending at the end of October. The tTheatre is seeing about thirty percent of the business they usually do

The high-level meeting will be closely watched by China, which warned on Tuesday against “exclusive cliques” that target third-parties.

The meeting in Tokyo on October 6 is the first standalone meeting of the Quad ministers, after an inaugural meeting a year ago in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations.

“This will be another important step forward for this grouping of Indo-Pacific democracies,” Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne said in a statement confirming her travel.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin remained at odds on key areas of COVID-19 relief on Thursday, after they failed to bridge what Pelosi described as differences over dollars and values.

Congressional Democrats led by Pelosi have proposed a $2.2 trillion package to respond to a pandemic that has killed more than 207,000 Americans and thrown millions out of work. In the absence of a deal with the White House, the Democratic-majority House of Representatives began debating the partisan relief bill and planned to vote on it on Thursday evening.

Republican President Donald Trump’s negotiating team has suggested a $1.6 trillion response, and the White House on Thursday dismissed Democrats’ offer as not serious.
