The owners of two Carrier Circle Marriott hotels are down $6.5 million in revenue this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but their insurance company and corporate franchise have left them to fend for themselves, they claim in a lawsuit.
Fairfield Inn & Suites and Springhill Suites on Weighlock Drive in DeWitt earlier this month sued Marriott International and Zurich American Insurance Company, arguing the local hotels over the years “paid handsomely” for the international, “sophisticated companies to protect them from risk.”
Yet in the local owners’ moment of need, the insurer and franchise were “nowhere to be found,” according to the lawsuit. The hotel owners have been denied any insurance coverage, as they continue to lose millions of dollars and most of their business to the pandemic, court documents said.
The local hotels join more than 1,000 business owners around the country challenging their insurance companies for denials of
