Most entrepreneurs can count themselves fortunate to have one successful startup to their name, so launching multiple projects takes a special kind of determination and passion that few possess. And those successes typically span over decades, not a few short years. Such conventions don’t matter to Brendan Cox, despite being only just removed from being a high school student.
I previously spoke to Brendan about his experience as a serial teen entrepreneur and his advice for other founders, and, true to form, he hasn’t remained idle since the publication of that last article, with yet another startup to his name and a new book. I reached out to him to talk about his new venture.
Mary Juetten: What’s the name of your company and where are you based?
Brendan Cox: Our company is called Business Blurb (TheBusinessBlurb.com) and we’re based out of New Jersey.
Juetten: When did you start?
Cox: Business Blurb was founded in 2020 by three successful teen entrepreneurs: myself, Devin Caherly, and Faiz Imran.
Juetten: What problem are you solving?
Cox: The largest problem we’re solving is the gap between actual news and what gets said on social media. Our team goes above and beyond to deliver the facts and since our content creators are all in house, we can effectively curate quality, accurate content without it being altered.
Business Blurb has amassed a massive entrepreneurial-based audience targeted directly at Gen-Z. With over 20,000,000 monthly impressions within one month of inception, our team is confident in the future of the company
Juetten: Who are your customers and how do you find them?
Cox: Our customers fall into 2 categories:
- Our readers and followers across our platforms (which includes our Tik Tok, Instagram, website, and numerous other social media). They make this all possible by sharing and spreading our content.
- Our sponsors. One thing we’ve been really keen about is who can become a sponsor. We vet our sponsors to ensure they’re genuinely able to offer value to our readers.
Juetten: How did past projects and/or experience help with this new project?
Cox: We have learned that the new generation is more active with their phone than anything else. Following trends and capturing the audience’s attention on social media is our primary focus, given that our target users are Gen-Z. Our main goal is to dominate the social media space in every possible aspect. Most large companies are lacking in their knowledge of social media and don’t take advantage of the younger audience.
Juetten: Who is on your team?
Cox: So far it’s the three cofounders — Devin, Faiz, and myself.
Juetten: Did you raise money?
Cox: Business Blurb is bootstrapped and self-funded between the three of us through profits from our previous successful entrepreneurial endeavors.
Juetten: Startups are an adventure — what’s your favorite startup story?
Cox: Startups are certainly an adventure. No one particular story comes to mind, but I love hearing startup stories about the grind and laser focus required because that’s what success is; you sacrifice time with friends and family so you’re able to make a larger impact on the world.
Juetten: How do you measure success and what is your favorite success story?
Cox: Success, in my opinion, is a temporary point; you never truly achieve it. It’s always a pursuit. Our goal initially was 10 million impressions. We smashed that goal out of the ballpark and set a new goal, then smashed that again. We’re very excited to achieve the next set of goals we have planned for Business Blurb and are looking forward to exponential growth month after month.
Juetten: Any tips to add for early-stage founders?
Cox: A tip for early startup founders is to always sell your vision and the solution to the problem while you constantly adapt and change the minimum viable product to customers’ response.
Juetten: What’s the long-term vision for your company?
Cox: Our long-term vision is simply to make an impact, the larger we get as a company, the more revenue we’re able to build and the larger of an impact we can make. We have a lot of amazing ideas and extensions of the brands on the way all of which are measured by the size of the impact they can help us produce.
